Express Yourself

Express YourselfExpress Yourself

Defrost Series

2-Part Concept

Storytelling through a variety of artistic expressions the concept of experiencing the season of winter mentally, and what it's like to let go of what's holing you back and emerge from a season of darkness.

Part 1: Defrost

“He hurls the hail like stones.

Who can stand against his freezing cold?”

Psalms 147:17

Poetry

Fire and ice

Don’t let them in, they can’t see

Don’t show the pain, ice queen

Everything is fine, except me

Substances were a shield to numb my soul

They brought temporary warmth, but made me cold

Dulled into reclusiveness, let the feelings go

At my core, caring more than you’ll ever know

Seasons change,

But I stayed

Living in winter

And I got sicker

Couldn’t hide forever

Sobered up and the ice got thinner

Melting down, stripping off layers

Seeing a light, but it’s far

Let the addict in me starve

As I heal the scars

Heart burns with passion as I grow

Brought on by fire, disappearing snow

Dissolving the trap— my glass globe

Flames ablaze in a different direction

Work in progress, far from perfection

Under His construction

Eyelash wishes

Part 2: Letting Go

"If you continue to hold them,

and refuse to let them go..."

Exodus 9:2

Poetry

Silent Strength

Balloons have the capacity to expand

Fill mine with just enough courage

To not let fear burst it

Or too much pride, over-inflated

The ones filled with troubles, better off released

Set us both free

Contemplating, standing alone

Wanting to hang on, seeming comfortable

Learning the art of letting go

By surrendering control

Our adversities are never in vain

Harbored with weight

Anchored by faith

Accept the things we cannot change

Release with gratitude & grace

Silent strength

WINTER UNCAGED

Blank page hear my soul

Forgive my lack of self control

As I write it out, let it go

Being alone is my comfort zone

Hear my heart as it speaks

Holding on to so much grief

Been here before

Accepted more

Expected less

Boundaries your heart or ego set?

Things go unspoken

But my eyes are wide open

Keep at arm’s length

Where I feel safe

Distance of a thought-consumed page

Each unique like snowflakes

Pouring out like rain

From a self-induced ice age

Pen & paper made

Winter uncaged
